Galveston Island’s Historic Pleasure Pier: A World-Class Destination for Family Fun and Entertainment

Featuring waterfront fun and entertainment unmatched by any other destination on the Gulf Coast, Pleasure Pier was recently named one of the Five Best Seaside Parks in the World by Amusement Today’s 2013 Golden Ticket Awards.  Other recipients of this honor include: Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk in Santa Cruz, CA; Pleasure Back in Blackpool, England; Morey’s Piers in Wildwood, NJ; and Grona Lund in Stockholm, Sweden.

These five seaside parks were selected by a panel of voters all over the world that consists of experienced park enthusiasts.  In the United States, the ballots are divided into four geographical regions with the same amount of voters in each region.  In addition, international voters are invited to participate.  This is a huge testament to the features and amenities of Pleasure Pier, as the park has only been open since May of 2012.

Blending the nostalgic atmosphere of America’s famous beach piers, Pleasure Pier was designed to be Galveston’s premier family fun adventure.  Extending over the Gulf of Mexico, the 120-foot-wide, 1,130-foot-long pier boasts 16 rides, games, entertainment, great food venues, and retail shops.  As one of the few destinations in the world that has this many rides over the water, guests can marvel at the panoramic views of the Gulf of Mexico while they are enjoying the rides, each one towering at least 30 feet above the ocean waves, including the Texas Star Flyer, the state’s highest “swing ride” that propels its riders 230 feet above the water.

In addition to exciting rides for every age, Pleasure Pier offers its visitors an abundance of dining choices and shopping venues.  From world-famous shrimp to traditional selections like hamburgers, pizza, or sweet treats, the park provides an assortment of options for the entire family.  There are also delicious dining establishments across the street from Pleasure Pier for additional cuisine and convenience.  Games and retail stores can be found along the pier, as well.  Visitors can purchase mementos, explore unique candy shops and retail kiosks, capture the experience with an Old Time Photo, and play a number of arcade and carnival-type games, including bumper carts!

Situated just south of Houston, Galveston is an optimal destination for family-fun and adventure.  With an abundance of historical activities, unique shopping, and an eclectic nightlife on the Strand; relaxing beaches; renowned beach parks like Stewart Beach; a plethora of dining establishments, shops, and seaside bars along the Seawall; Schlitterbahn; and Moody Gardens, Pleasure Pier enhances the appeal of Galveston Island, adding to its unparalleled recreation and entertainment options.
