Montrose: A Cultural and Artistic Community

Montrose is a demographically diverse area with renovated mansions, bungalows with wide porches, and cottages located along tree-lined boulevards.  One of the more pedestrian-friendly neighborhoods in Houston, Montrose has become the center for the gay and lesbian community in Houston.

Known for its bohemian flavor, Montrose has an array of art festivals, fairs, and music clubs.  Throughout the area are many art communities, music communities, as well as thrift, vintage and second-hand shopping stores.  Located nearby to Montrose is the Museum of Fine Arts,Houston, and the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston.  With all these avenues, residents are enriched by the culture and an “artsy” lifestyle exhibited throughout the community.

Montrose’s high rents, up market boutiques, restaurants, and its niche market for office buildings has caught the attention of the American Planning Association who recently rated Montrose as “one of the top ten greatest neighborhoods” in the United States.

The community is laced with parks, trails, and other areas for outdoor recreation, as well.  In addition, residents also enjoy art and entertainment events that Montrose hosts like the Houston Greek Festival and the Montrose Crawl, a pub crawl that raises money for charity.  Students are served by the Houston Independent School District and also have the option of attending several private schools located throughout the area.
